Like others, I left the theater after seeing The Rise of Skywalker dazzled. There is a lot happening in this movie, and if you’re one of those persons who can put off the analytical hat and just enjoy the ride — that’s great. There are a lot of great action sequences paired with incredible acting, especially from Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver. Maybe you shouldn’t read on, though.

Movies can impress on a superficial level, but the real magic happens underneath. There is a place for action, but thoughtful character development is essential. And while I didn’t hate TROS, it essentially felt a bit empty. Thankfully I follow many film nerds on YouTube. So far, Sage Hyden did the best job articulating what’s on my mind:

  1. No scenes, just plot: The characters running around in search for the next MacGuffin instead of dealing with their emotions between each…
